When the first cold wind comes in October I always feel like crying because I know what it means: seven months of freezing dark. I am kind of feeling today, how did I ever survive the UK for so long? Perhaps just because I had a fabulous cup of coffee on the verandah this morning watching hammerkops build a nest and a Sykes monkey eat himself sick, with the Nairobi skyline in the distance. And winter was bearable until the end of November. It's that beastly time between December and April that drive men to drink and drive women to wear tragic black miniskirts in baltic wind. And summer always dissapoints with its endless drizzle. But Autumn? Can you imagine, praising the weather? Especially when you come FROM THE CARRIBBEAN!!! Ridiculous. There are lots of things I love about the UK, but never the autumn . . .Sarah Normanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05145876806604726875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7989828528012145346.post-79479650007625524742011-03-30T09:48:22.189-07:002011-03-30T09:48:22.189-07:00I love the last sentence you quoted. I have a "Love - Hate" relationship with the United Kingdom, but not to the point of praising the weather!

In "Ways of Looking and Feeling" he also speaks of the relationship with his father in affectionate terms. He almost seems to be the only writer in the word Naipaul feels compassions for and this speaks a lot of his character.

However, I must admit that he writes beautifully.Stefania - The Italian Backpackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02208023950547260256noreply@blogger.com
